Project Description

According to Solid Waste Management Project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Andhra Pradesh Technology Development Corporation (APTDC) has started the works for Rs.19.63 crores for Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Facility (MSWDF) at Brahmapuram. The vision is to commission the Project by February 2008.

Key Functions

  • Weighing Mechanism with Utility. Weighing mechanism with utility building, security etc. is planned at Brahmapuram main sold waste processing site.

  • Sorting of Non-Biodegradable Waste. Sorting of Bio-degradable waste into components like plastic, glass, rubber porcelain, metals etc. by mechanical means is envisaged at Brahmapuram main sold waste processing site.

  • Accelerated Aerobic Composting. The biodegradable waste is heaped on treatment platform and turned periodically to convert it into compost. Aerobic composting takes place with the help of suitable ‘ innoculum ‘ added to it.

  • Secure Land Filling Facility. Secure Land Filling Facility at Brahmapuram main solid waste processing site: About 4 to 5 Cubic Meters of Hazardous waste will have to be buried every year. Aprox. 10 cents of land will be required to be prepared every year going upto 20 years atleast. We are planning for 2 nos excavators also.

  • Effluent Treatment Plant. Effluent Treatment plant, Monitoring cell with laboratory etc are planned at Brahmapuram main sold waste processing site.

  • Drinking Water Facility. Drinking water facility at Brahmapuram main solid waste processing site is envisaged.

  • Green Belt. Green Belt at Brahmapuram main solid waste processing site: The vacant areas will be converted into a beautiful picnic spot with Land scaping, wide roads, gardens with fragrant flowering plants like Jasmines, medicinal plants, vegetation (special bamboo etc), vegetable farms, integrated farming with diary, piggery etc, water park, Fish ponds, entertainment facilities, conference cum recreation halls, Library with reference books etc. All concerned stakeholders and experts will be consulted before finalizing the facilities at Brahmapuram. It will be one of the best solid waste processing sites in the world

Project Summary

The construction of Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Facility (MSWDF) at Brahmapuram is progressing. This plant is designed for a capacity of total 250 tonnes per day including 200t by mechanical composting and 50t by vermi composting. Major components of this plant are:-

  1. Tipping Floor (place where raw waste is dumped from vehicles)
  2. Presorting shed (where a sorting of larger garbage bags are cut and separated)
  3. Treatment platform (where waste is heaped in wind rows for composting)
  4. Compost processing shed (where compost is processed into manure)
  5. Finished products go down (where manure is packed in bags)
  6. Vermi compost shed (where vermi composting is done)
  7. Sanitary land fill area (where rejects of the waste are disposed scientifically)
  8. Effluent treatment plant (where leachate of the waste is treated)
  9. Administrative building (office, laboratory)
  10. Other amenities (parking shed, security cabin, workers rest, weigh bridge & switch gear room)
  11. Roads, drains fencing etc.

Out of these structures, tipping floor, treatment platform and compost process plant are crucial with regards to the receipt of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Hence preference is given for completing these three buildings. The schedule prepared to monitor the progress of the above-mentioned buildings is attached with this.

Regarding the mechanical errection works, M/s APTDC has either placed the orders or started fabrication of the equipments required for the plant. Electrical drawings are approved by the M/s FEDO and application for power allocation is submitted. Electrical installation will be started in December 2007.
