Mooppan Colony in Division No. 59 of Corporation of Kochi is a slum inhabited by OBCS who are below poverty line.
This colony has been included in the first phase of CIF works under KSUDP. A detailed project report for the infrastructural
development works was prepared by DSC-2. The work was tendered by the PIU and awarded to the contractor mentioned
above.
The works done are to improve the infrastructural facilities in the colony which are noted below.
1. Drain : the existing cover slabs of the drain on the foot path to the colony were precariously damaged. They were
replaced with new RCC cover slabs making the movement of the people easier and safer
2. Foot Path : The damaged foot path to the colony has been reconstructed with cement concrete and neatly finished.
3. Yard : Concrete yard in front of the houses which was damaged has been neatly reconstructed
with cement concrete.
4. Water Supply: The colony was facing acute shortage of drinking water. A new street hydrant has been installed in
the colony for the benefit of the colony inhabitants. The availability of water has been significantly improved.
5. Street light: The street main has been extended to the colony and one 150W SV lamp has been installed in the
colony on a newly erected lamp post.
Completion of the work in the colony was delayed due to the delay in executing electrical part of the work by KSEB.
As it has already been reported via Letter No. WAP/KSUDP/DSC-2/9/09/34 dated 24-4-2009 certain items exceeded
in quantities. But there is a net saving of 12.03% as far as this work is concerned. On completion of the above infrastructural
improvement works in the colony, the overall appearance and the quality of life of the inhabitants of the colony have been
increased to a great extend.
